The match against Rubery
was a really good evening - we won 3-2 but it could and possibly should have
been 5-0.Dave played the best
game of his season so far. He was ahead all game, but went behind for the
first time on the low colours. Even then, he potted a superb blue. He left
himself the length of the table, needing to play the ball slowly as the
black was down the same end of the table as the pink. The cue ball was also
tight to the top cushion and he missed, leaving his opponent to wrap it up
57-43.
Mark was behind early on, but knocked
in a nice 46 break after which he was always in control and won comfortably
62-22 in the end.
Paul's game was a real rollercoaster.
He played their captain, Carl Rose who is a very capable player. They both
made minor breaks early on, but then Paul managed to put a 38 together to
take control. Carl then came back at him and snookered him on the yellow.
Paul is usually reasonable at getting out of snookers, but he just couldn't
see the angles this time. He missed 4 times to put Carl ahead, but he took
pity on Paul after a while and turned down the opportunity of another miss.
He then proceeded to pot yellow, green and brown to leave Paul needing a
snooker. Paul potted the blue and then played a lovely stun shot with the
rest, leaving a perfect snooker on the pink. Carl tried a swerve, but
missed. Paul then tried a safety shot, which almost came off, but not quite,
leaving Carl a thin snick into the middle which he knocked in for victory
74-55.
In Alan's game, although both players
seemed to be playing well, Alan was always well ahead and ran out a
comfortable winner 67-29.
Stuart played Jock and it was a rather
scrappy frame given the calibre of the two players. The real problem was
that the colours went awkward early on, making it difficult to string a
break together. Fortunately, Stuart put together a decent break towards the
end which finally clinched it. Final score was 72-47.
