MATCH REPORT -  Longbridge Social v BVSC

Well, it was back to league action last night against our good friends at Longbridge Social. Paul was first against Dougie Brookes and it was not the draw Paul wanted as Dougie has been in good form this season, winning 5 out of 7 games and has the second highest break just behind Dave Brown. It looked ominous early on - Paul broke and with the tables being slow, he left Dougie an early long red. He took that and then smashed into the reds off the black. Fortunately for Paul, he did not leave himself anything easy and he left Paul with a chance from which he managed to put in a 19 which got him ahead and then he played safe. He managed to keep Dougie quiet and only leave him half chances after that. When he missed one or two of these, he seemed to lose his rhythm and his control a little. Paul also missed a chance or two, but by now he had managed to get a lead of over 30. Dougie came back, even though he needed 2 snookers and with the last 3 balls on the table he played a good snooker behind the pink. In truth, he should have escaped, but he just missed and things were looking serious when he got another snooker soon after. He managed to escape that time, but left an easy opportunity for him to leave Paul another snooker. He got the snooker, but was horrified when he potted the blue which of course then left himself snookered. When he missed the pink, it was all over.

Alan Carter played Luke Andrews who is a very capable player and although Paul, who compiles these reports, didn't get to see much of his match, judging by the scoreline, Luke was always in control.

Mark Sutton played Rob Brookes, who is a good player, but who is really struggling with his form, having lost every game this season. Mark got in early and made a useful 20 which would have been more but for the slowness of the tables. The tables at Longbridge always seem quite close together and Mark was right on the side cushion and could not get a proper stance to pot a blue in the middle. He duly missed it, but it did not really matter as soon after, he fluked a red and managed to put together a break of 67 from it winning the match without his opponent scoring at all.

Dave Thomas was having a real battle against their captain, Phil. There were no real fireworks from either player, but Dave always had his nose in front. It got really scrappy at one point and the match took a long time to complete but Dave managed to hold his advantage through to the end.

Luke was up against Oz Badyu who is also a very capable player. Oz got away first and built up a useful lead. Luke came back a bit, but never really got much of a look in. He missed one decent chance, but basically, Oz never gave him much and ran out a comfortable winner.

So a 3-2 loss away from home isn't a bad result against a team who are flying in the league this year.
