MATCH REPORT -  BVSC v KINGS NORTON XS 'B'

I'm pleased to report our first win of 2007 last night. A good 4-1 win over Kings Norton Ex Service B.

Luke Ellis had an interesting match - he potted a couple of reds but the black was left over the corner pocket and after a little while, a number of reds had got pushed onto the side cushion. His opponent, Pete, suggested a re-rack and Luke agreed. This turned out to be a bad mistake on Pete's part as this time, Luke potted a lot more than just a couple of reds. In fact he compiled an excellent break of 83, which appears to be the highest break in the league this season so far. He had a good chance to get to the century, but couldn't quite make it.

Alan Carter was on next and this match could have gone either way. Alan was behind early, but came back into it and managed to build up a lead he was never to lose.

Mark played some good shots, but also missed a couple of balls he would never miss when on top form. The balls were pretty open and his opponent, Bob almost made him pay but he could not quite keep the cue ball under control and left himself with missable pots. Fortunately, he did miss, but he certainly potted enough to make Mark sweat a little.

Ian Rawlings played their best player (as usual), Wayne. Wayne begin by potting three long balls and it seemed as though it was going to be a one-sided match. Wayne managed to build up a 28 point lead, but credit to Ian he came back well to level the scores. Basically, the final two reds proved the crucial point of the game. Wayne managed to take them and then he cleared the table with a 42 clearance which ultimately was the difference.

That left Paul Haywood to play their captain, John. Paul played well early on and compiled a nice break of 35, to put himself in control. John then began to come back and Paul had a spell where he played some poor safety shots and the difference was down to less than 10 at one point. It must be said that Paul did have a good run of the balls (unlike last week) and that was a crucial factor in him ultimately winning.

So, a good win for our first of 2007
